Uzbekistan imported 1.8 mn mobile phones with a total value of $171.1 mn in 1H24, the State Statistics Agency reports. China was the primary supplier, providing 1.5 mn units. Vietnam ranked second with 288,800 units, followed by India with 42,800 units.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan saw a significant increase in mobile phone imports in 2023, totalling 3.4 mn units valued at $240.1 mn. This represented a 13.7% rise from the previous year, with an increase of 476,000 units.
For 2023, the distribution of mobile phone imports was as follows:
- China: 3.1 mn units
- Vietnam: 276,800 units
- India: 37,200 units
- UAE: 7,800 units
Effective January 28, new regulations were implemented concerning the import of mobile phones into Uzbekistan. Individuals, including both citizens and foreigners, were permitted to bring up to two cell phones per border crossing via air harbours, with a combined value not exceeding $2,000.
If the total value of the imported phones exceeded this limit, a 30% fee was imposed on the excess amount. This measure aimed to manage excessive imports and regulate the market more effectively.
