The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Kazakhstan has formally appealed the boxing decision at the 2024 Olympic Games, expressing concerns over the judging standards. The appeal was directed to the Paris Boxing Unit (PBU) concerning the bout between Mukhammedsabir Bazarbayuly of Kazakhstan and Lasha Guruli of Georgia in the 63.5 kg weight category. The NOC is requesting an explanation for the result of this match.
Zhanar Utesheva, Secretary General of the NOC, highlighted that the committee disagrees with the result and has demanded clarification from the PBU. The NOC has also notified the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding their concerns.
This is not the first instance where the NOC of Kazakhstan has questioned the decisions of boxing judges. Previous notes sent to the PBU about the judgments in matches involving Kazakhstani boxers have been acknowledged, and an investigation is currently underway.
The NOC's appeal aims to ensure that future boxing matches at the Olympic Games are judged with integrity and fairness, reflecting the true performances of the athletes.
