Kazakhstan’s civil aviation sector recorded a 15% rise in passenger traffic in 1H24, reaching 6.8 mn passengers. Domestic airports handled 11.3 mn passengers, a 21.5% increase from the same period last year.
This year, the domestic airline fleet was expanded by five aircraft. Airlines now serve 132 international destinations, operating 760 weekly flights across 33 countries, including new routes to China, Egypt, Germany, Georgia, Malaysia, Qatar, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the UAE, and Vietnam.
Six airlines, including Air Astana, FlyArystan, SCAT, Qazaq Air, Yuzhnoe Nebo, and Zhetisu, operate domestic flights on 53 routes with 640 weekly flights. To ensure transport accessibility and promote domestic tourism, 19 domestic air routes in nine regions are subsidized for KZT 6.6bn ($13.9mn). These regions include Turkistan, North Kazakhstan, Akmola, Abai, Zhetisu, Pavlodar, Zhambyl, East Kazakhstan, and Ulytau.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have inaugurated a new air navigation corridor through a collaboration between Uzaeronavigatsia and Kazaeronavigatsia. On July 11, new sections of the T-916 zonal navigation route were officially commissioned. This initiative aims to optimize flight paths and reduce environmental impact.
The newly established corridor is 40 kilometres shorter than previous routes, offering significant fuel savings for airlines. It is estimated that airlines could save between 30 to 50 tons of jet fuel annually per airline, assuming daily use of the optimized route. Furthermore, the initiative is projected to reduce oxygen consumption by 50-70 tons and decrease carbon dioxide emissions by 220-250 tons annually.
