In the first half of 2024, Uzbekistan exported textile products valued at $1.5bn, marking a 5.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, as reported by the Statistics Agency.
At the beginning of the year, the primary components of Uzbekistan's textile exports were finished goods, constituting 38.1% of the total, and yarn, making up 46.2%. Throughout this period, these products were exported to 55 countries, reflecting the diverse international market for Uzbek textiles. The specific breakdown of textile exports is as follows: yarn at $708.6mn, finished textile products at $584mn, knitted fabric at $114.1mn, fabrics at $75.1mn, and socks at $20.5mn.
Uzbekistan's light industry has focused on producing high added value products. This sector is economically notable for the country, providing substantial employment and enhancing Uzbekistan's industrial potential and international reputation. The increase in textile exports is attributed to reforms aimed at producing finished goods instead of raw cotton, thereby creating added value.
The detailed export values for January-June 2024 are as follows: Total exports were $1.5bn compared to $1.6bn in 2023, knitted fabric exports were $144.1mn compared to $173.9mn in 2023, yarn exports reached $708.6mn up from $658.0mn in 2023, fabrics exports were $75.1mn compared to $92.2mn in 2023, finished textile product exports were $584.0mn down from $662.6mn in 2023, and socks exports were $20.5mn compared to $31.4mn in 2023.
