The 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Kazakh-Tajik Commission on Economic Cooperation convened in Dushanbe, chaired by the First Deputy Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar and Tajikistan, Khokim Kholikzoda. The meeting focused on strengthening economic ties and increasing trade turnover between the two nations.
During the discussions, the commission reviewed the economic conditions in both countries and explored the current state and future prospects of trade and economic cooperation. Key areas of collaboration were identified, including energy, industry, transport, agriculture, education and science, digitalization, and tourism.
Special emphasis was placed on measures to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, establish joint ventures, and develop a comprehensive mechanism for water and energy cooperation to ensure water, energy, and food security in Central Asia.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the agreement to draft and sign a Roadmap aimed at increasing trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan for the period of 2025-2027. This agreement is expected to be finalized during the upcoming visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan to Tajikistan.
In his address, Roman Sklyar highlighted the rapid development of Kazakhstan-Tajikistan relations, underpinned by a spirit of partnership and good neighborliness. He pointed to the success of the Kazakh-Tajik business forum held last year, which resulted in the signing of 39 commercial contracts, as evidence of the strong potential for bilateral economic cooperation.
Sklyar expressed confidence that the decisions made during the meeting would provide additional momentum to the development of bilateral relations across all sectors of cooperation, thereby strengthening the ties between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol outlining the implementation of the agreements reached.
