Kazakhstan has approved an additional KZT 22.7bn (approximately $47.7mn) from the emergency reserve to address the aftermath of recent spring floods and restore affected infrastructure. This decision formalized through a resolution signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, aims to expedite recovery efforts across multiple regions.
The allocated funds will be distributed to local akimats (city administrations) for comprehensive restoration and reconstruction projects. Key areas of focus include:
- Aktobe Region: 31 projects will be undertaken, including repairs to culverts on the Irgiz-Nura and Irgiz-Kutikol roads, as well as reconstruction of the bridge over the Uil River and construction of a new bridge in the village of Ayke, Aitekebi district.
- Akmola Region: Investments will support repairs on roads leading to Atbasar, Sochinskoye, and Koluton, among other areas, covering a total of 14 routes.
- Kostanay Region: Funds will be allocated for 22 road and bridge repair projects and improvements to approximately 10 water drainage structures.
- North Kazakhstan Region: Efforts will include repairs on 10 highways, including the Kokshetau-Omsk route, and medium repairs to culverts over a stretch of 22 km.
This funding is expected to enable local authorities to swiftly restore damaged infrastructure, ensuring safe travel and access for residents.
On July 17, 2024, Prime Minister Bektenov convened a meeting to discuss the progress of housing and infrastructure restoration post-flood. He emphasized the need for accelerated restoration efforts, calling for increased mobilization of personnel and equipment to address the challenges promptly.
