Trade between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan has seen a substantial upswing, with a 34% increase in turnover over the past five years, the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan reported.
In a recent diplomatic encounter, Arman Shakkaliyev, the Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, engaged in discussions with Khairullo Ibodzoda, the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Kazakhstan, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting delved into various facets of the trade and economic relationship between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, with particular attention given to augmenting mutual trade turnover, attracting investments, and fostering industrial cooperation.
Shakkaliyev underscored the significance of Tajikistan as one of Kazakhstan's principal trading partners within the region.
"We are committed to further deepening and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation with Tajikistan across the entire spectrum of our interaction," remarked Shakkaliyev, emphasizing the resolve to bolster ties between the two nations.
Highlighting Kazakhstan's recent economic achievements, Shakkaliyev noted a 16.6% surge in exports during the first quarter of the year, amounting to $229.7mn.
Shakkaliyev proposed expanding the utilization of KazakhExport insurance tools, already in active use within Tajikistan. These tools have seen substantial uptake, with KazakhExport accepting obligations amounting to KZT 4.7bn ($10.6mn) in 2023, and KZT 2.2bn ($4.9mn) in the first three months of 2024.
Tajikistan, a vital supplier of food products to Kazakhstan, particularly stands out for its contribution during the off-season. Tajikistan played a significant role in providing onions during this period, with imports averaging 180,000 tons, of which Tajikistan accounts for nearly half or approximately 70,000 tons.
In response, Ambassador Ibodzoda emphasized the immense potential for further development in Kazakh-Tajik relations, grounded in shared interests and objectives.
Concluding the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining active communication and collaboration across all mutually beneficial domains of cooperation.
