In the first half of 2024, Turkmenistan produced over 40.2 bn cubic meters of natural gas, as announced by the chairman of the state committee on statistics. This data was presented during an extended meeting of the country’s Cabinet of Ministers, reported by the TDH news agency.
Natural Gas and Oil Production
The production figures for natural gas reached 40.23 bn cubic meters in the first half of the year. This substantial production highlights Turkmenistan’s capacity as a leading global producer of natural gas. Comparatively, the country produced 80.6 bn cubic meters of natural gas by the end of 2023, showing consistent performance in the energy sector.
Additionally, Turkmenistan extracted more than 4.16 mn tons of oil in the same period. This production aligns with the nation’s robust energy sector output, contributing significantly to its economic growth.
Increase in Petroleum Products
Chairman also highlighted notable increases in the production of petroleum products compared to the previous year. The production of petroleum bitumen rose by 13.2%, and the production of fuel oil saw a significant increase of 31.7%. These figures indicate an upward trend in the output of refined petroleum products, supporting the industrial and economic activities in Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan’s production achievements in 2024 reflect a continuation of its strong performance from previous years. In 2023, the country produced 80.6 bn cubic meters of natural gas and 8.3 mn tons of oil.
Globally, Turkmenistan ranks fourth in proven natural gas reserves, following Russia, Iran, and Qatar.
