The sixth meeting of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the seventh convocation took place on July 13, focusing on the consideration and adoption of various laws aligned with the state policy priorities of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the comprehensive program for modernizing the country's legislative and legal framework.
Parliamentary Elections
One of the first items on the agenda was the draft Resolution of the Mejlis on the recognition of the powers of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan elected in individual electoral districts. Elections were held on July 7 in Ashgabat's No. 1 “Garaşsyzlyk,” No. 2 “Bitaraplyk,” and No. 6 “Köpetdag” districts to fill vacancies. The elections were conducted on an alternative basis, promoting openness and transparency, reflecting the progressive policies of President Berdimuhamedov and strengthening democratic practices in Turkmen society.
International Agreements and Protocols
Additionally, the draft Law on the ratification of the amendment to article VI of the charter of the international atomic energy agency was discussed. This amendment, adopted on October 1, 1999, aims to expedite the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes worldwide. The deputies also considered the bill on accession to the convention on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora and the draft Law on accession to the protocol on the protection of industrial designs to the eurasian patent convention of September 9, 1994.”
National Legislation and Policy Enhancements
The meeting included discussions on a variety of draft laws aimed at improving national legislation. These included amendments to the Labor Code, laws on the Bar and Legal Activities, Civil Status Acts, the Budget Code, and the Code on Social Protection of the Population. The parliamentarians also reviewed amendments to the Sanitary Code and laws related to physical culture and sports, state scientific and technical policy, and combating doping in sports.
All draft legislative acts submitted during the meeting were unanimously approved and adopted. The deputies expressed confidence that these new laws would enhance Turkmenistan's legislative system and support the successful implementation of large-scale socio-economic and democratic transformations under President Berdimuhamedov's leadership. These efforts are aimed at fostering progressive development across various spheres of life in Turkmenistan.
