The Agreement on cooperation in the joint implementation of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway project was approved between the Government of China, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the Government of Uzbekistan Legalinfo reports.
The agreement, signed on June 6, 2024, in Beijing, formalizes the cooperation between the Government of China, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, and the Government of Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan has been designated as the competent body responsible for implementing this international agreement.
The Cabinet of Ministers and relevant ministries and departments are tasked with ensuring the control and execution of the agreement's provisions once it comes into force. This cooperative effort builds upon a previous agreement signed in Samarkand in September 2022, which laid the groundwork for the project's technical and economic evaluation in the first half of last year.
In December 2023, Chinese experts completed field work on the new railway line, a project that has been under discussion for over two decades. The construction of this railway is expected to significantly expand trade and transport routes, facilitating connections from China through Uzbekistan to Europe and the Persian Gulf countries via the "Southern Corridor."
