President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received Gilbert F. Houngbo, the Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on July 9, who is on a practical visit to Uzbekistan. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation with this esteemed UN institution, highlighting the progress and future goals of Uzbekistan in the realm of labor rights and social justice.
The director general of the ILO expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and commended Uzbekistan's strides in safeguarding workers' rights, generating employment opportunities, and implementing international labor conventions. He emphasized that his visit represents the ILO's support for the effective reforms led by President Mirziyoyev. Houngbo acknowledged Uzbekistan's experience as a successful model worthy of international study and application. He noted that Uzbekistan's election to the ILO's Administrative Council in June 2023 is a testament to the country's progress and commitment.
In recent years, Uzbekistan's collaboration with the ILO has notable advanced. With the organization's support, Uzbekistan has adopted over 40 normative labor documents and ratified 22 international conventions.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of implementing joint measures to advance social justice principles, particularly within the framework of the "Global Coalition for Social Justice." Both parties agreed on the necessity of a new country program for 2026-2030, reflecting a continued commitment to improving labor conditions and promoting social equity.
