President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan in Astana on July 3, to advance their nations' strategic partnership. The meeting, part of President Mirziyoyev's working visit, focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, economy, investments, and transport.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with increasing mutual trade volumes, cargo transportation, and joint ventures. They highlighted the importance of maintaining active contacts at various levels to strengthen bilateral ties.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized creating favorable conditions for boosting trade turnover under the Preferential Trade Agreement. They agreed on adopting a joint Industrial Cooperation Program for 2025-2026, targeting sectors like agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.
Plans were made to convene the next Intergovernmental Commission meeting, a business forum, and an industrial exhibition later this year to promote economic interactions.
Discussions also focused on advancing the Trans-Afghan Railway project for regional connectivity. Both leaders exchanged views on regional issues, affirming their commitment to collaborative approaches for stability.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Uzbekistan and Pakistan's commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across sectors, aiming to foster regional stability and economic development.
