Kazakhstan is prepared to boost its exports to Armenia up to $350mn, as stated by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev after bilateral talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Akorda reported.
President Tokayev, and Prime Minister Pashinyan, held a joint briefing for media representatives following bilateral negotiations in Yerevan. The discussions culminated in a series of agreements aimed at bolstering economic cooperation and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
President Tokayev, making his first official visit to Armenia, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and underscored the deep historical and cultural ties shared between Kazakhstan and Armenia. Emphasizing the importance of the bilateral relationship, he stated that Armenia stands as a crucial and reliable partner for Kazakhstan in the South Caucasus region.
“Our relationship is based on unshakable friendship and mutual support. Activating bilateral ties is our common goal. Our interests in strengthening regional and international security and interaction coincide. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries. During this time, Astana and Yerevan laid a solid foundation for a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership. We are interested in further developing a comprehensive partnership with Armenia. That is why today’s visit is of particular importance to me,” President Tokayev shared.
The core focus of the negotiations centered on expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation. President Tokayev highlighted Kazakhstan's readiness to increase exports to Armenia to $350mn, indicating a substantial commitment to enhancing commercial ties. The leaders acknowledged the steady growth in mutual trade over the past five years and identified areas for further collaboration, including industry, construction, transport, logistics, agriculture, finance, innovation, and tourism.
To catalyze economic engagement, both leaders emphasized the need to explore new avenues for trade expansion and the implementation of joint investment projects. They also stressed the importance of nurturing ties between business communities through initiatives such as the creation of a Business Council and the facilitation of business missions.
Integral to their discussions was the development of the transport and logistics sector, with Kazakhstan lauding Armenia's efforts to restore transit connections in the South Caucasus. The endorsement of Prime Minister Pashinyan's "Crossroads of the World" initiative and the proposal for direct flights between the capitals signaled a commitment to enhancing regional connectivity.
President Tokayev further underscored the significance of cultural and humanitarian exchanges, announcing Kazakhstan's hosting of the Days of Armenian Culture and initiatives to commemorate prominent figures from both nations. These gestures, including the naming of streets in Yerevan and Astana after influential figures, aim to foster mutual understanding and strengthen spiritual ties.
Beyond bilateral matters, the leaders engaged in dialogue on regional and global issues, affirming their countries' alignment with multilateral frameworks and mutual support for initiatives promoting peace and stability. President Tokayev expressed Kazakhstan's readiness to support efforts toward a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, reaffirming a commitment to fostering enduring peace in the South Caucasus.
“Kazakhstan and Armenia effectively interact within the framework of multilateral structures. The positions of the two countries on many pressing issues at the regional and international levels are close. It is gratifying that providing mutual support for our initiatives has already become a tradition. We agreed to work together in the future, as well as to actively participate in the process of strengthening peace and stability,” President Tokayev stated.
The briefing concluded with an invitation from President Tokayev for Prime Minister Pashinyan to undertake an official visit to Kazakhstan, symbolizing a continued commitment to deepen bilateral relations. In response, Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed appreciation for the agreements reached and highlighted the prospects for further cooperation, particularly in the realm of transport and logistics.
