Preliminary data from the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan indicates a higher number of boys born compared to girls in the first half of 2024.
As per to the Statistics Agency, a total of 374,400 live births were registered in Uzbekistan between January and May 2024. Breaking down these figures by gender:
- Boys: 180,400
- Girls: 167,000
This results in 13,400 more boys born than girls during this five-month period. In the previous month (April 2024), 142,400 boys were born compared to 132,100 girls, a difference of 10,300 more boys.
The data reveals a consistent trend of higher birth rates for boys compared to girls in Uzbekistan. This phenomenon is observed globally, with various factors contributing to this disparity.
Biologically, it is common for slightly more boys to be born than girls. The natural sex ratio at birth typically averages around 105 boys for every 100 girls. This ratio can vary slightly due to genetics and environmental conditions.
In some cultures, a preference for male children may influence birth rates through practices such as selective childbirth. However, the data from Uzbekistan does not specify the reasons for the gender disparity in births.
