Kazakhstan and South Korea inaugurated their direct air service, marking a notable development in their bilateral relations. The Civil Aviation Committee of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport organized the event, with key attendees including Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastaev, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee Saltanat Tompieva, and Kazakhstan's Ambassador to South Korea Nurgali Arystanov.
Air Astana will conduct flights on the Astana-Seoul route twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, using Airbus A321 aircraft. This new air connection is set to enhance trade, economic, business, and tourism ties between Kazakhstan and South Korea.
In February and March 2024, aviation authorities from both nations conducted discussions aimed at increasing flight frequencies. Both parties agreed to improve the existing legal framework to facilitate a higher number of flights between Kazakhstan and South Korea.
Earlier, Daryo reported that the European Commission removed all flight restrictions for Kazakhstani carriers to European Union (EU) countries, according to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport. This decision was reached during the Committee on Flight Safety meeting of the European Commission, with participation from aviation authorities of 27 countries. Kazakhstan's delegation presented updates on measures implemented to address prior deficiencies.
