The United States imposed sanctions on several Uzbek nationals due to their alleged connections with the Islamic State (ISIS), the US State Department stated. Muhammadyusuf Mirzoev was involved in setting up an ISIS training camp in 2023. The location was not mentioned in the report. Muhammad Niyazov is identified as supporting a smuggling network by providing logistical aid. Olimkhon Ismailov is also accused of being connected to this smuggling network.
These sanctions will freeze the assets and properties of the mentioned individuals within the United States. The State Department also cautions that entities engaging in transactions with these individuals risk facing sanctions themselves.
The United States is actively collaborating with the Republic of Türkiye to counter ISIS and disrupt its facilitation networks, addressing a wide range of terrorist threats. In this effort, and in coordination with Türkiye, the State Department designated ISIS leader Adam Khamirzaev as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.
Adam Khamirzaev, also known as Adam Islamovych Oliferchik, is the emir of the ISIS Georgia Province. His designation as a global terrorist highlights his leadership role within ISIS and reinforces the US's commitment to counterterrorism.
