In the aftermath of the explosion at Zaman Khan Fort in Kabul's 16th District, conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the target and the responsible party. The Islamic State (ISIS) has asserted its involvement, releasing a statement claiming that the blast targeted a vehicle carrying staff from Polcharhi Prison, Daryo correspondent in Afghanistan reported.
It's worth noting that the Taliban has consistently denied the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan. However, this marks the second attack in Kabul within a week for which ISIS has claimed responsibility.
The regional affiliate of the Islamic State group, which has a history of targeting Shiite schools, hospitals, and mosques, has previously acknowledged its involvement in comparable attacks within the same vicinity. In November, an explosion involving a minibus in Kabul's identical area led to seven deaths and 20 individuals sustaining injuries.
Earlier Daryo reported that an explosion occurred in a Kabul neighborhood primarily inhabited by Shiite Muslims, targeting a minibus. A Taliban official reported at least two civilian fatalities and 14 injuries on January 6. This marks the initial attack in Afghanistan in 2024.
