Kyrgyzstan witnessed a substantial increase in the export of oil production in 1Q24, reaching over 43,000 tons, the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan announced. This figure marks a 37.6% rise compared to the same period in 2023 when exports stood at 31,428 tons. These exports amounted to over $29mn, an increase of 27.7% from the $22.8 mn recorded in January–March 2023.
Most of Kyrgyzstan's oil product exports were directed to Turkey, totalling 24,924 tons valued at almost $16mn. Uzbekistan was the second-largest destination, receiving 8,960 tons valued at $2.5mn.
Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover for the same period reached $3.7bn, showing a robust growth of 29.8% compared to January through March 2023. Exports totalled nearly $511mn, up by 12.8% from the previous year. Imports also surged by 33% to $3.2bn, compared to the same period in 2023.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Lukoil, a Russian oil company, ramped up its imports of Kazakhstani oil for its refinery in Bulgaria due to a ban on purchasing Russian oil. In May 2024, Kazakhstan became the primary oil supplier to Bulgaria, with Lukoil Neftohim Burgas receiving about 80,400 barrels per day of Kazakhstani high-sulfur Kebco and CPC Blend, an eightfold increase from January.
