Kyrgyzstan's imports of oil products saw a notable increase in 1Q24, reaching 162,774 tons, a 2.1-fold increase compared to the same period in 2023 when it stood at 74,821 tons. The value of these imports amounted to $123.4 mn, marking a 90.8% increase from January to March 2023, which recorded $64.7 mn.
The major exporters of oil products to Kyrgyzstan during this period were Russia, contributing 136,332 tons worth $99.5 mn; Kazakhstan, with 21,076 tons valued at $15.3 mn; Uzbekistan, providing 2,074 tons valued at $1.2 mn; and Belarus, supplying 1,248 tons valued at $908,610.
Kyrgyzstan's total foreign trade turnover for January to March 2024 amounted to $3.7 bn, marking a significant 29.8% increase from the corresponding period in 2023.
Exports during this period totalled $510.9 mn, reflecting a 12.8% increase compared to January through March 2023. Imports, on the other hand, surged by 33%, reaching $3.2 bn compared to the same period in 2023.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Lukoil, a Russian oil company, ramped up its imports of Kazakhstani oil for its refinery in Bulgaria due to a ban on purchasing Russian oil. In May 2024, Kazakhstan became the primary oil supplier to Bulgaria, with Lukoil Neftohim Burgas receiving about 80,400 barrels per day of Kazakhstani high-sulfur Kebco and CPC Blend, an eightfold increase from January.
