Kazakhstan's Astana was chosen to host the 26th World Petroleum Council (WPC) Energy Congress in 2028, the KazEnergy association's press office reports. The official agreement was signed during a meeting in London between KazEnergy Association Chairman Magzum Mirzagaliyev and WPC Energy President Pedro Miras. Discussions at the meeting included topics such as technical assistance, scientific research, and workforce development.
During the evaluation of Kazakhstan's candidacy, WPC Energy Council members noted the substantial advancements in the country's national oil and gas sector, its international industry significance, and Kazakhstan's role within the organization. Astana's proposal received unanimous approval from council members, who represent 60 countries and 96% of global oil and gas production and consumption.
The congress will be funded through international sponsorships, delegate seat sales, and exhibition space rentals. Any profits generated from the event will be directed to charitable projects, such as establishing an Oil Museum in Atyrau or providing special educational grants for Kazakh students at technical universities within the industry.
The WPC Energy Congress is a premier global forum for discussing key issues on the international energy and petroleum agenda. The event draws heads of state and government, leaders of major corporations, officials from relevant government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international organizations, along with leading experts from around the world.
