President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced comprehensive plans for the creation and development of a tourism cluster in the historic city of Shakhrisabz, as revealed by presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov.
At a meeting on June 3, focused on improving infrastructure for tourists, President Mirziyoyev critically assessed the current pace of work. Despite securing agreements worth $2.3 bn at the Global Tourism Investment Forum last year, some regions have yet to allocate sites for these projects. The President emphasized the need for accelerated progress to meet the expectations set by these substantial investments.
Additionally, efforts are underway to establish a tourist zone in the village of Miraki. To improve accessibility, President Mirziyoyev has ordered the expansion of roads from Khisorak to Gilon and Sarchashma, facilitating easier travel for visitors. He also mandated the repair of 30 kilometers of the Chirokchi-Shurkuduk highway, which will significantly reduce travel time for tourists coming from Samarkand.
In a move to bolster the region's energy infrastructure, the project includes the construction of three hydroelectric power stations on the Aksu River, with a combined capacity of 24 MW. This development is expected to provide reliable power for the growing tourism facilities and the surrounding communities.
Education and training are also key components of the President's tourism development plan.
To further enhance the appeal of Shakhrisabz and other regions, President Mirziyoyev has tasked officials with selecting 20 areas with high tourism potential and developing comprehensive master plans for each.
