The European Union announced its readiness to invest €10 bn in sustainable transport connectivity in Central Asia. This was announced by the EU delegation in Tajikistan. The high-level mission led by Henrik Hololei, Hors Class Adviser of the Directorate General for International Partnerships of the European Commission, visited Tajikistan on May 30 and 31.
‘The European Union announced its intention to invest €10 bn in sustainable transport connectivity in Central Asia as a joint contribution of international partners,’ the mission said.
The European Commission is preparing a regional transport programme to support the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor as part of the European Union's Global Gateway strategy.
The Global Gateway is part of the EU's new strategy to develop smart, clean and secure connections in the digital, energy and transport sectors, as well as to strengthen health, education and research systems around the world. The initiative was introduced in 2021 by the European Commission and the EU High Representative.
As a reminder, at the Investors' Forum held in Brussels in January 2024, representatives of the five Central Asian countries expressed their support for strengthening transport routes between Europe and the region, thus improving regional integration.
