A Memorandum of Understanding was inked between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Senate of the Arab Republic of Egypt, aimed at consolidating cooperation from a legal standpoint.
The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, engaged in discussions with Abdul Wahab Abdul Raziq, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who embarked on a practical visit to Uzbekistan.
The talks delved into prospective avenues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt, spanning trade, economics, culture, humanitarian affairs, tourism, and the enhancement of inter-parliamentary relations.
Highlighting the positive trajectory of bilateral trade, both parties acknowledged a 50% increase in mutual trade volume in 2023 compared to the previous year. However, they concurred that there remains untapped potential and underscored the imperative of further fortifying relations between the business communities of both nations to maximize these opportunities.
Emphasis was placed on executing mutually beneficial projects in various domains such as science, education, art, and religious enlightenment, leveraging the shared religious beliefs, traditions, and customs of the two nations.
Particular attention was devoted to inter-parliamentary collaboration, with a focus on practical measures to enhance cooperation between the Senates of Uzbekistan and Egypt. The necessity of establishing a framework for consistent communication and exchange of expertise among the committees and departments of the upper chambers of both parliaments was underscored.
Furthermore, an agreement was reached to institute systematic parliamentary oversight mechanisms to monitor the implementation of high-level agreements between the leaders of Uzbekistan and Egypt.
Proposals were also tabled to establish friendship groups within the Senates of both nations and to facilitate mutual exchange of experiences among regional representative bodies, which serve as vital constituents of the people's representative institutions.
Abdulwahab Abdulraziq, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Arab Republic of Egypt, concluded the visit by signing the guestbook of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis as a token of diplomatic goodwill and bilateral cooperation.
