Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is open to developing cooperation with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on gas supplies. Peskov made these remarks during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Uzbekistan, highlighting the potential for wide-ranging cooperation among the three countries. He said, "This is cooperation along the lines of three countries - Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia, so the possibilities here are very wide. Russia is open to this, and this is mutually beneficial cooperation."
Speaking about relations with Uzbekistan, Peskov said it was ‘a traditional, very important partner in Central Asia.’ He noted the dynamic nature of the trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan, describing the country as one of the largest in Central Asia, playing a significant role in the region.
On October 7, 2023, Presidents Putin, Mirziyoyev, and Tokayev of Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan respectively, gave the start to the transit of Russian natural gas through the territory of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan via the Central Asia-Centre gas trunkline. Peskov highlighted this as a significant step in enhancing energy cooperation among the three nations.
Peskov highlighted the warm personal relations between Presidents Mirziyoyev and Putin, noting that President Mirziyoyev personally met his Russian counterpart at Tashkent airport. He described President Mirziyoyev's attitude towards President Putin as marked by kindness, emphasizing their good personal relations.
