Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a state visit to Uzbekistan on May 26-27, as confirmed by Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov. Before this, President Putin will visit Belarus on May 24-25.
Putin's visit to Uzbekistan will be limited to Tashkent. Ushakov explained that, although protocol generally includes visits to multiple cities, the specific needs of both nations have led to this arrangement. This differs from Putin’s recent visit to China, where he visited both Beijing and Harbin.
A state visit includes more ceremonial protocols. However, Ushakov stated that the work undertaken during state, official, or working visits is fundamentally the same. Putin's first engagements in Uzbekistan are scheduled for the evening of May 26, including a meeting.
During the visit, several documents will be signed, though specifics on the sectors involved were not provided. No joint document signings are planned for the visit to Belarus.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's trade turnover with Russia reached $3.8 bn from January to April 2024. Exports to Russia were valued at $1 bn, while imports from Russia totalled $2.8 bn.
