The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) reported a notable increase in its project portfolio in Kyrgyzstan, which reached an estimated $101.5 mn at the end of 2023. This announcement was made during a meeting between Kyrgyzstan's Finance Minister, Almaz Baketaev, and the Chairman of the EDB Board, Nikolai Podguzov.
Podguzov highlighted the substantial growth in the bank’s investment portfolio in Kyrgyzstan, which reached 61.6% of the investments planned in the country strategy for 2022-2026. This growth reflects the bank's commitment to increasing its project activities in the region.
The EDB is currently financing the construction of the Kulanak Hydropower Plant (HPP) with a capacity of 100 MW and a new clinker burning line at the Kant cement plant. In 2023, the bank's Technical Assistance Fund initiated three projects worth $4.2 mn.
In 2024, the EDB plans to intensify its project activities in Kyrgyzstan, focusing on priority areas such as the megaprojects "Water and Energy Complex of Central Asia" and "Eurasian Transport Framework." Additional focus areas include green energy, utilities, industry, and digitalization, according to Podguzov.
