Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused Washington of deliberately harming countries through sanctions imposed on the aviation industry, following the recent helicopter crash involving Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Lavrov's comments came after a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), as it was disclosed by TASS on May 21.
He stated, "The Americans deny this, but in fact, other countries against which the United States announces sanctions do not receive spare parts for the American equipment, including aviation."
The Russian Foreign Minister criticized the notion propagated by Western nations that sanctions are aimed solely at influencing the behavior of governments and do not affect ordinary citizens. He dismissed this as "an obvious and outright lie," suggesting that it demonstrates the unreliability and inability of Western partners to negotiate effectively across various sectors, including trade, economics, investment, and finance.
Lavrov underscored Russia's response to Western sanctions, stating that the Ministry of Industry and Trade and other relevant departments are swiftly replacing any parts previously sourced from the West. He emphasized Russia's efforts to establish domestic production capabilities for engines and other components, ensuring independence from Western supply chains.
