Akylbek Zhaparov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic highlighted the allocation of KGS 1bn ($11.3mn) to finance 70 projects across the Issyk-Kul region in 2023 during his recent visit.
Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Akylbek Zhaparov, underscored the critical need to maintain the efficient functioning of engineering and infrastructure systems in Cholpon-Ata, the primary tourist hub of the Issyk-Kul region.
Zhaparov participated in the inauguration of a water intake facility in Cholpon-Ata, marking a crucial milestone in the region's infrastructure development. Addressing the gathered audience, he underscored the importance of maintaining and upgrading essential systems, highlighting Cholpon-Ata's pivotal role as a tourism center.
"The rehabilitation and commissioning of the water supply system in Cholpon-Ata are significant achievements for the region. With no major repairs conducted for almost four decades, the updated system is poised to provide clean water to the populace," stated Zhaparov.
27 projects, including schools, kindergartens, healthcare facilities, and water supply installations, were successfully completed, with an additional KGS 2bn ($22.6mn) earmarked for the city of Karakol.
The ongoing construction of a road encircling Lake Issyk-Kul and the recent inauguration of a park in Cholpon-Ata reflect the government's broader agenda for regional development.
Looking ahead, Zhaparov outlined ambitious plans to bolster Cholpon-Ata's infrastructure further. Proposals include the construction of sewage systems and pumping stations in Kara-Oy and Bosteri villages, alongside the establishment of a modern wastewater treatment plant in Cholpon-Ata. Additionally, plans are underway to create extensive pedestrian and bicycle paths spanning 15 kilometers along the lake's coastline, alongside the renovation of Cholpon Kyz Park and the development of an open-air petroglyph museum.
The comprehensive upgrade of the water supply system saw the installation of modern automated equipment, the establishment of a water quality testing laboratory, and the adoption of advanced purification techniques. Moreover, investments were made in water storage facilities, and equipment for well-cleaning was acquired.
During his visit, Zhaparov also inspected Sovetskaya Street in Cholpon-Ata and deliberated with specialists on the reconstruction of the Balykchy-Ananyevo-Karakol highway, with repair works slated to commence following sewer system upgrades.
Further underlining the government's commitment to agricultural development, Zhaparov toured the Agro-Kush poultry farm in Sary-Kamysh village. The facility, which operates on an industrial scale, boasts a poultry meat slaughtering and processing capacity of up to 6,000 birds per hour. The enterprise received financial support from the State Development Bank and the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund in 2023 to bolster its agro-industrial operations.
