Almassadam Satkaliyev, Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, participated in a session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Riyadh, focusing on international cooperation, growth, and energy. The event convened over 1,000 global leaders across public and private sectors, international organizations, NGOs, academia, and civil society to foster dialogue and tackle pressing challenges hindering global growth and development.
Satkaliev played a prominent role in the panel session titled "Intensifying Action for Development in the Energy Field." In addition to his participation, he seized the opportunity to engage in crucial meetings with key figures in the energy sector.
Among the notable encounters were discussions with Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, the Prince-Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Haitham Al Ghais, the Secretary General of OPEC. Talks primarily revolved around the implementation of agreements within the OPEC+ framework and the necessity for concerted efforts to maintain stability in the oil market.
A meeting took place with Clay Neff, President of International Exploration and Production at Chevron. Discussions encompassed various aspects of collaboration, including the development of Kazakhstan's Tengiz and Karachaganak fields, along with plans for a gas processing plant at Karachaganak. Emphasizing the government's dedication, Satkaliev underscored the importance of timely execution for projects like the Future Growth Project – Wellhead Pressure Management Project (FGP – WPMP) at the Tengiz field.
Regarding the Karachaganak field, both parties expressed contentment with the ongoing progress aimed at sustaining oil and condensate production levels. They reiterated their commitment to bolstering the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Chevron in current and prospective domains.
Another meeting transpired with Mohammad Abdullah Abunayyan, Chairman of ACWA Power. Abunayyan expressed interest in initiating a renewable energy project in Kazakhstan's Caspian region, aligning with Kazakhstan's plans to integrate western Kazakhstan's energy system with the Unified Energy System. Additionally, discussions broached the potential implementation of Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) projects with desalination, as well as pilot projects involving green hydrogen in collaboration with Kazakh entities.
In a gesture of goodwill, ACWA Power pledged support in addressing the aftermath of floods in Kazakhstan, underscoring a commitment to mutual cooperation and support beyond business ventures.
Minister Satkaliyev reiterated Kazakhstan's dedication to fostering sustainable energy partnerships and emphasized the significance of international cooperation in achieving shared energy goals and addressing global challenges.
