Uzbekistan and Russia sign environmental cooperation program
The 4th meeting of the Russia-Uzbekistan working group on the implementation of the agreement between the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation convened on April 25, fostering discussions on bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation and management.
Led by Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Ecology, Jusipbek Kazbekov, and Ivan Kushch from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the meeting included representatives from various environmental agencies and organizations from both countries. The agenda encompassed a range of topics, including water resources protection, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and environmental education.
"The main part of the discussion is the fight against waste, because the increase in population leads to more waste and environmental pollution. We have experience in this regard and we are ready to share it,"
stated Ivan Kushch, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in waste management.
The meeting also saw the exchange of knowledge and experiences, with both parties expressing interest in joint initiatives such as youth water competitions and volunteer activities for environmental conservation.
Furthermore, the Russian delegation proposed a comprehensive pilot project for the creation of an integrated waste management facility in Uzbekistan, utilizing Russian technologies and equipment.
In addition to discussions, agreements were reached to organize future events, including a seminar on state environmental expertise and environmental impact assessment in 2025 and the continuation of projects aimed at conserving rare and endangered species, such as the "Flight of Hope" project for Siberian crane conservation.
On the second day of the visit, representatives from the Russian delegation visited the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies, participating in tree planting activities as part of the "Green Space" nationwide program. This initiative reflects the shared commitment to environmental sustainability and beautification of urban and suburban areas.
