Viktor Makhmudov, Uzbekistan's Secretary of the Presidential Security Council, emphasized the ongoing challenges faced by Central Asian nations due to external pressures. Speaking at the 12th International Meeting of High Representatives on Security Issues, Makhmudov outlined Uzbekistan's foreign policy priorities which are heavily focused on enhancing peace, security, and trust within the Central Asian region.
He noted, "Uzbekistan considers the Central Asian region as a priority of its foreign policy and makes active efforts to establish peace, security and trust in this region. Unfortunately, today the pressure on the countries of the region from external forces continues. They are trying to put the Central Asian countries in front of a choice without considering their national interests."
The UK, represented by Lord David Cameron, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, is advancing a strategic agenda aimed at reducing Central Asia's dependency on Russia and China. Cameron's diplomatic tour across Central Asia underscores a shift towards enhancing regional connectivity and cooperation rather than directly opposing major powers.
Eldaniz Gusseinov, a foreign policy analyst specializing in European and international studies, elaborated on the UK's regional strategy, stating, "On a geopolitical level, the UK seeks to counter the considerable influence of Russia and China by promoting greater cooperation between Central Asian states."
