Senators of Uzbekistan actively participated in the nation's environmental endeavors as they joined a planting event under the "Yashil Makon” (Green Nation) national project on April 13, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reported.
Organized in collaboration with the Senate's Committee on the Development of the Aral Bay Region and Ecology, the Republican Specialized Center for Dermatovenerology and Cosmetology, and Eco-Movement, the event aimed to foster environmental sustainability and awareness.
Boriy Alikhanov, Chairman of the Senate's Committee on Development of the Aral Bay Region and Ecology, addressed the participants, shedding light on the core objectives of the nationwide project. "Yashil Makon" aims to ensure environmental safety, protect natural resources, and mitigate climate change impacts.
Participants were enlightened about the ecological significance of greenery, with one hectare of green fields capable of producing enough oxygen for 200 individuals to breathe and absorbing 8 kg of carbon dioxide per hour. The importance of green spaces in urban environments was underscored, with 50 square meters of greenery facilitating a conducive atmosphere for city dwellers.
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, planted trees and shrubs play multifaceted roles in environmental conservation. They act as barriers against snow and sandstorms, mitigate the risks of landslides and floods, and safeguard areas from erosion caused by water and wind. Additionally, they serve to dampen noise pollution and trap harmful gases emitted by vehicles.
The event saw the planting of over 100 fruit and ornamental tree seedlings within the premises of the Republic's specialized dermatovenerology and cosmetology scientific-practical medical center. Participants lauded the symbolic significance of each sapling, recognizing their role in providing shade and fruit, enhancing the urban landscape, and improving air quality.
During scorching summer days, the foliage of trees and bushes serves as a shield against solar radiation, reducing heat and increasing air humidity by 15-30%. Furthermore, plants act as natural filters, capturing dust particles and harmful chemicals, thus safeguarding human health.
