Chinese companies to build $350 mn solar power plant in Uzbekistan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in a ceremony marking the inauguration of new industrial and energy projects during his visit to the Jizzakh region on April 8, presidential press service reported.
Highlighting the interdependence of industry and energy sustainability, President Mirziyoyev noted the harmonious development of these sectors. In 2023, Uzbekistan saw the launch of 4,600 industrial enterprises, contributing to a 6% growth in the industry and the production of goods valued at UZS 656 trillion ($52 bn)
Furthermore, the President highlighted significant advancements in the energy sector, with the connection of 7 large thermal, solar, and wind power plants with a collective capacity of 2.4 gigawatts. Additionally, Uzbekistan is undertaking the construction of 31 power plants with a total capacity of 12 gigawatts, attracting foreign investment totaling $14 bn. This year, 2.6 gigawatts of power will be connected across various regions, increasing the share of "green" energy in generation to 30%.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized that these efforts aim to ensure uninterrupted energy supply for industrial development and to enhance living standards across the country.
The Jizzakh region is also witnessing significant industrial and energy projects. Notably, an industrial zone specializing in metallurgy is under construction in the Gallyaaral region. With an investment of $500 mn, the zone will host 7 projects focused on the production of fittings, steel balls, pipes, automobile bodies, and special equipment, creating 5,000 jobs.
Another notable project is the construction of a solar power plant in the Farish region in collaboration with Chinese companies. The 500-megawatt plant, valued at $350 mn, is expected to produce 1.1 bn kilowatt-hours of green energy annually, benefiting 450,000 households. The first phase of 200 megawatts is scheduled to come online later this year.
President Mirziyoyev ceremoniously inaugurated the construction of these two complexes, signaling the government's commitment to furthering economic development and improving living standards.
Over the coming years, additional thermal, wind, and solar power plants with a total capacity of 1,660 megawatts will be constructed in various districts, promising to uplift the population's standard of living and stimulate economic growth.
Earlier Daryo bn that three power facilities, with a total investment of $1.1 billion and a combined capacity of 1.28 gigawatts, are being constructed in the Namangan region at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
