A proposal was put forth for the establishment of a solar photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 100 MW in Uzbekistan's Surkhandarya region, which was announced in a meeting held on April 4. The proposal was made by a delegation led by Kemal Gunay, the General Director of Akgun Enerji, a Turkish firm with expertise in solar power plant construction. This meeting was hosted by Ulugbek Kasimov, the governor of the Surkhandarya Region, and was confirmed by the regional government’s press service.

The meeting highlighted the strong cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkey, particularly in creating a conducive environment for mutual investments and the execution of promising projects. The Turkish delegation emphasized the abundant sunshine in the Surkhandarya region throughout the year, making it an ideal location for harnessing renewable energy resources.
Akim Kasimov expressed his satisfaction with this collaborative endeavour and reaffirmed the region’s commitment to facilitating projects that are both economically and environmentally sustainable. He assured the Turkish investors of the region’s full support in realizing the proposed solar power plant project.
Following the meeting, both parties agreed to conduct a comprehensive review of the project’s technical and economic feasibility, involving experts from both Uzbekistan and Turkey. Plans were also set in motion to commence preparatory activities aimed at initiating the project implementation process.
