Turkmenistan has been invited to join the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), the organisation has announced. FEG Secretary General Mohamed Hamel met with Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Qatar, Myratgeldy Seyitmammedov.
"Turkmenistan, with its vast natural gas reserves and being a key natural gas exporter, could find it beneficial to join the GECF and participate in its activities," the organisation said.
The meeting a comprehensive overview of GECF's role as an international governmental organization fostering dialogue and cooperation among its 20 member countries, peer international organizations and also the consuming countries.
According to the GECF, Turkmenistan will reach a gas production level of 110bn cubic metres by 2050.
"Turkmenistan boasts vast natural gas reserves estimated at 13.9tn cubic meters. Its strategic geographical location places it in close proximity to major natural gas-consuming countries, including the largest importer of natural gas, China, as well as India and Pakistan".
The country currently sells gas to China, Russia and Uzbekistan.
