Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Islamic Affair, Dawah and Guidance, implemented the gift program of dates in the Turkmenistan amounting to 5 tons.
The ceremony to mark the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was held at the Hazrat Omar Mosque in Ashgabat. The gift will be distributed to mosques and Muslim communities.
An attendant at an Ashgabat mosque told Daryo that dates and the date palm are mentioned 20 times in the Quran, the Muslim holy book, for their healing properties.
Dates are known for their high levels of beneficial micronutrients: they contain B vitamins, PP vitamins, as well as iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. Some doctors say they are nutritious, useful for pregnant women and help with colds.
