The Qoshkopir College of Water Resources and Melioration in the Khorezm region, in collaboration with the UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan, celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated campus on March 26, EEAS reported. This momentous occasion marked a stride forward in the Skills Development for Employability in Rural Areas of Uzbekistan project, generously supported by the European Union.
Dignitaries from the European Union and UNESCO, alongside local government officials, college staff, students, and esteemed members of the Qoshkopir community, gathered for the inauguration ceremony. The focal point of the event was an immersive tour showcasing the college's upgraded facilities. Attendees had the unique opportunity to witness firsthand the transformative changes that have transpired.
This interactive experience facilitated meaningful exchanges between visitors, educators, and students, fostering insightful discussions about the renovations and forthcoming initiatives. Furthermore, teachers and students shared their personal journeys and professional insights, underscoring their achievements within the project's framework.
Established in 1989, the Qoshkopir College of Water Resources and Melioration, situated in the Khorezm region, has undergone extensive enhancements as part of the project. These improvements encompass refurbished workshops, classrooms, and laboratories, boasting new flooring, ceilings, paint, and upgraded lighting.
Additionally, the college's infrastructure has been revitalized, including revamped water supply and sewage networks, as well as rewiring of the electrical system. These upgrades empower students to acquire vital irrigation skills crucial for sustainable development and enhanced livelihoods in rural Uzbekistan.
"We are not merely modernizing buildings here; we are equipping young women and men with the requisite skills to implement contemporary irrigation practices, thereby conserving water, enhancing water quality, and augmenting crop production, all to forge a brighter future for themselves and their communities," Wim Riepma, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan, expressed.
Since 2020, UNESCO, with the financial backing of the European Union, has spearheaded the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) strategy in Uzbekistan. This initiative concentrates on governance and policy reform, modernizing qualifications, and bolstering access to quality TVET to complement the Uzbek government's endeavors to elevate living standards in rural areas. While the project prioritizes enhancing employability for both men and women, particularly the youth, its overarching goal is to furnish individuals with the skills necessary to meet the demands of a sustainable, diversified, and modernized agriculture and irrigation sector in Uzbekistan.
