The governments of Kazakhstan and Qatar have embarked on implementing investment projects worth $17.6bn, the official information resource of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reported.
The momentum was highlighted during a recent working visit by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, to the State of Qatar on March 20. Bektenov was warmly received by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, where he conveyed sincere greetings and good wishes on behalf of the Kazakh Head of State, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The meeting underscored the strengthening of Kazakh-Qatari relations across all realms of cooperation, characterized by robust dynamics. Previous negotiations between President Tokayev and Emir Al Thani in February reaffirmed the mutual desire to elevate cooperation to a new strategic level.
During his visit, Bektenov engaged in discussions with Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, focusing on the implementation of previously agreed-upon initiatives and the expedited execution of investment projects spanning energy, agriculture, and more.
Bektenov emphasized Qatar's pivotal role as an economic partner for Kazakhstan in the Arab world, citing the forthcoming implementation of groundbreaking investment projects totaling $17.6bn.
“Qatar is an important economic partner of Kazakhstan in the Arab world. The agreements reached during the visit of Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Qatar take our investment cooperation to a qualitatively new level. We are on the verge of implementing large-scale and strategically important investment projects worth an unprecedented amount of $17.6bn,” Olzhas Bektenov voiced.
Among these projects, notable endeavors include the construction of gas processing plants, main gas pipelines, power plants, and facilities for the deep processing of agricultural products.
Moreover, Bektenov announced Kazakhstan's readiness to supply halal and organic agricultural products to the Qatari market, fostering cooperation between Kazakh and Qatari enterprises in the agricultural sector.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani reciprocated the sentiment, expressing Qatar's keen interest in further enhancing trade, economic, and investment cooperation. He emphasized the solid political foundation underpinning bilateral ties and reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to exploring new avenues for collaboration.
“There is a good political basis for strengthening interaction between our countries. Earlier during the visit, the heads of our states expressed their readiness to take cooperation to a higher level and implement a number of joint projects. Our meeting today will allow us to implement the agreements reached at the highest level. For our part, we are ready to explore new directions to expand and deepen cooperation,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani remarked.
Discussions also extended to cultural and educational exchange, civil aviation, and tourism, reflecting a holistic approach to strengthening ties between the two nations.
The pinnacle of the visit was the signing of an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Qatar to establish a long-term strategic partnership for the development of projects in priority sectors. This agreement sets the stage for the comprehensive and mutually beneficial advancement of cooperation between the two nations.
