Sarens, a global leader in heavy lifting and engineered transport, has successfully executed critical replacements as part of the Turnaround Project at the Tengizchevroil (TCO) plant in Tengiz, Atyrau, Kazakhstan, Sarens reported.
The TCO plant, a cornerstone of Kazakhstan's energy sector, entrusted Sarens with vital tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the facility. By August 2023, Sarens Kazakhstan had completed all essential work for the turnaround project with remarkable precision and efficiency.
Among the replacements were a D-503.2 column weighing a staggering 112 tonnes and three reactors (R-720, R-721, and R-725), each weighing 56 tonnes. Additionally, Sarens engineered and executed various lifting works, including the installation of transformers and the replacement of challenging-to-access pipelines, demonstrating their comprehensive capabilities in handling complex projects.
To accomplish these tasks, Sarens deployed advanced equipment, including 18 axle-lines SPMT and 14 cranes, such as the Liebherr LR 1600-2 (600 tonnes) and Sumitomo-SCX 1500A-3 (150 tonnes). These heavy-duty machines, strategically mobilized from different locations, remained operational on-site for extended periods, ensuring the seamless progress of the project.
The most critical element of the operation was the replacement of the aging 112-tonne column D 503. Despite its age and lack of proper lifting lugs, Sarens devised an innovative solution using a needle beam, meticulously engineered for this specific purpose. Despite the challenges posed by the narrow and congested working environment, which included overhead pipelines, trenches, and various obstacles, the Sarens team executed the operation flawlessly.
Reflecting on the successful completion of the project, Bassarov Kairat, Sarens project engineer, expressed gratitude.
"Thanks to the professionalism of Sarens colleagues, all difficult tasks were completed on time and safely. This has helped earn more trust and respect from our client, TCO," Bassarov Kairat noted.
The partnership between Sarens and TCO underscores the commitment to excellence and safety in Kazakhstan's energy sector. TCO, a leading producer of oil, gas, and associated products, plays a pivotal role in the nation's economic progress and future development. The successful execution of the Turnaround Project reaffirms Sarens' position as a trusted partner in delivering complex solutions for critical infrastructure projects worldwide.
Sarens extends its appreciation to TCO for entrusting them with this significant project and acknowledges the dedication of its crew and colleagues who contributed to the project's success.
With such precision and expertise demonstrated in the TCO Turnaround Project, Sarens reaffirms its commitment to excellence and innovation in the global heavy-lifting and engineered transport industry.
