Uzbekistan ratifies energy cooperation treaty with Azerbaijan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has ratified an international treaty between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, aiming to deepen cooperation in the energy sector. The agreement, signed on August 22, 2023, in Baku, was formalized through presidential decree.
Under the treaty, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy is designated as the competent authority responsible for its implementation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the Azerbaijani government of Uzbekistan's completion of domestic procedures necessary for the treaty's entry into force and the authority responsible for its implementation.
Upon the treaty's entry into force, Uzbekistan's Cabinet of Ministers and relevant ministries and departments will ensure compliance with the country's obligations outlined in the agreement. Prime Minister Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov has been assigned oversight responsibility for its implementation.
Earlier Daryo reported that in August 2023, the president of Uzbekistan undertook an official visit to Azerbaijan, focusing on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries and expanding cooperation across various sectors, including politics, trade, economy, transportation, communication, and culture.
