Tanzila Norbaeva, Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and head of the republican commission on women and girls' role in society, gender equality, and family issues, is leading a delegation from Uzbekistan at the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, the Senate's press service reports.
Focus on Women's Rights and Empowerment
The UN Commission on the Status of Women serves as a crucial working body of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, dedicated to developing international standards for safeguarding and promoting women's rights. During the two-week session, discussions will center on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration, with a particular emphasis on eradicating poverty, achieving gender equality, and empowering women through enhanced institutional capacity and funding.
Representatives from the UN and civil society will convene to deliberate on key agendas aimed at advancing women's rights and empowerment globally. The session offers a platform for stakeholders to exchange insights, share best practices, and formulate strategies for overcoming gender disparities and promoting inclusivity.
Bilateral Meetings to Strengthen Partnerships
In addition to participating in the session, the Uzbekistan delegation has scheduled bilateral meetings with heads of UN agencies, presidents of various countries, government leaders, and ministers. These engagements provide opportunities to foster partnerships, strengthen cooperation, and explore avenues for collaborative action towards advancing women's rights and gender equality initiatives.
Earlier, it was reported that ACWA Power organized the first regional Women in Power forum in Tashkent on March 6, ahead of International Women's Day on March 8. The event focused on opportunities for women in the alternative energy sector.
