Uzbekistan prepares for potentially hottest summer in region
Social media chatter has been abuzz with speculation about Uzbekistan bracing for an exceptionally scorching summer in 2024. However, the country's meteorological authority, Uzhydromet, has stepped forward to address these concerns and shed light on the forecast on February 20.
Uzhydromet responded to the circulating reports by highlighting insights drawn from global meteorological forecasts. According to these projections, the ongoing El Niño phenomenon is expected to persist until April 2024. This assessment is based on an average derived from ten numerical climate model simulations.
Following the El Niño phase, Uzbekistan is anticipated to transition into the La Niño process, which typically ushers in hot summer conditions, particularly notable in cities like Tashkent where temperatures can soar up to +40 degrees Celsius. This phenomenon is often accompanied by dry autumn weather and cold winters.
