Uzbekistan's El-Yurt Umidi Foundation expands educational opportunities with Colorado State University

Uzbekistan's El-Yurt Umidi Foundation expands educational opportunities with Colorado State University

In a bid to bolster educational opportunities for scholars supported by the "El-Yurt Umidi" Foundation, a step forward was taken during a meeting on February 13 between Javakhir Akhmedov, Deputy Executive Director of the Foundation, and Travis Maynard, Senior Associate Dean of Colorado State University. The meeting aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two entities, the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation reported.

Discussions primarily revolved around facilitating the education of scholarship recipients from the "El-Yurt Umidi" Foundation at Colorado State University, with a focus on securing discounts on tuition fees.

Highlighting the Foundation's commitment to providing its scholars with high-quality educational experiences, Javakhir Akhmedov emphasized plans to send scholarship holders to Colorado State University for the Fall Semester of 2024. This initiative aligns with the Foundation's mission to support the academic pursuits of talented individuals.

Travis Maynard, representing Colorado State University, expressed strong support for the Foundation's endeavors. He assured close support for scholarship recipients, indicating that the university would consider allocating additional scholarships to those who demonstrate exceptional academic performance during their studies.

Furthermore, the proposal to establish a short-term internship program for civil servants received a favorable endorsement from Travis Maynard, underscoring the university's commitment to fostering practical learning experiences.

This latest development builds upon a memorandum of cooperation signed between Colorado State University and the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation on February 9, 2022. The memorandum initially granted a 20% discount on tuition fees for scholars supported by the Foundation. Discussions during the recent meeting centered on the possibility of increasing this discount by an additional 35%, further enhancing the accessibility of higher education for the Foundation's beneficiaries.

    About “El-Yurt Umidi" Foundation

In September 2018, the president of Uzbekistan issued a decree, establishing the "El-Yurt Umidi" Foundation to oversee the education of specialists abroad and engage with expatriates. This foundation succeeded the "Umid" Foundation, founded in 1997, and the "Istedod" Foundation, established in 2003. Subsequent decrees in October 2018 and January 2019 further refined the Foundation's role, expanding its scholarship programs and emphasizing areas of study such as education, science, healthcare, public administration, and emerging sectors of the economy.

Additionally, the Foundation was transferred to the Agency for the Development of Public Service in October 2019. In April 2020, in line with the State program "The Year of the Development of Science, Education, and Digital Economy," new measures were proposed to enhance the Foundation's activities, including introducing intensive language courses and aligning employee salaries with those of the Agency for the Development of Public Service. These changes aim to streamline scholarship competitions, simplify the process of studying abroad, and attract skilled expatriates to contribute to Uzbekistan's government and economic sectors.
