Advanced radiation detection equipment was handed over to the border-customs post of Samarkand airport by the USA agency, during the solemn event attended by Kristine Bent, Assistant Deputy Secretary of Energy of the USA, and Ilkhom Mukhtorov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee.
"The US Department of Energy and the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan have been cooperating since 2006. A memorandum was signed between the two organizations in 2017. Therefore, for the first time in Uzbekistan, we provided the Samarkand International Airport with artificial intelligence detection equipment, which has not been installed in any country outside the United States," Kristine Bent, Assistant Deputy Secretary of Energy of the United States said.
The apparatus can remotely detect radioactive substances that are harmful to human health and cannot be seen or touched by hand. In the future, it is planned to install such equipment at other border customs posts.
