The number of tourists from Russia who visited Tajikistan in 2023 saw an increase of 92.8% compared to 2022, reaching a total of 262,400 visitors. This information was disclosed by the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of Tajikistan.
Tourists arriving in Tajikistan hailed from 121 countries worldwide. Russia topped the list with 262,400 visitors.
Dilafruz Karimova, the head of the tourist police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, reported at a press conference that Russian tourists complied with the laws of the republic. The majority of them were interested in mountain climbing.
Increase in tourist flow from neighbouring countries
In 2023, the largest number of tourists to Tajikistan came from neighbouring Uzbekistan, with 805,900 people, marking a 15% increase from 2022. The tourist flow from Kazakhstan also increased by 31.8%, amounting to 31,500 people. Turkey saw a 61.2% increase in its tourist numbers to Tajikistan, with 10,800 visitors.
The most significant increase in the number of tourists in Tajikistan was observed from China. The republic was visited by 13,000 Chinese citizens, marking a 4.9-fold increase from 2022.
Overall increase in tourist flow
At the end of January, the press service of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, reported that the overall tourist flow to the republic increased by 20% in 2023. The number of visits to the country for tourism purposes exceeded 1.2 mn people.
To further enhance the attractiveness of the republic, the head of state ordered the creation of working groups at all levels of government. These groups will oversee the construction of tourism infrastructure, handle personnel issues related to the industry, and manage the landscaping of settlements, cleanliness maintenance, and nature protection.
