Jahongir Ortikhojaev, the Former Mayor of Tashkent City, shared insights on the Pakhtakor football club, stating that he would not buy it even for $100, but he would take it for free. He disclosed that his investments in the Tashkent club amounted to approximately UZS 200bn ($16.2mn).
In addition to this, Ortikhojaev addressed the role of media in shaping public opinion. The former mayor of the capital emphasized that media representatives can change public opinion to a certain extent, but this is not of the entire Uzbekistan.
"Jahongir Aka, you go down first, please - you were asked earlier. Stop dangling your feet in the air," - stated Uzbek blogger and journalist Nikita Makarenko
He also expressed his disapproval of what he deemed as ill-mannered behaviour within the media industry. Specifically, he criticized the practice of reprinting without providing original content and suggested that journalists better consider submitting their materials abroad. The former mayor posed a rhetorical question, asking about the international recognition of Uzbek journalists and bloggers.
"Does anyone know you abroad except Uzbeks?" - he asked during the podcast.
Magic City Park investment
The former mayor also touched upon his involvement with Magic City Park, indicating an initial investment of over $55mn. Jahongir Ortikhojaev acknowledged facing challenges in managing the project over time, prompting him to explore alternative initiatives.
