Uzbekistan is slowly advancing in the digitalisation of its healthcare sector and the introduction of health insurance, as stated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the meeting held on February 5, the President's Press Secretary reported.
Performance evaluation of officials
Mirziyoyev has directed Abdulla Aripov, the head of government, to enter into one-year contracts with the leaders of social institutions, city mayors, and their deputies. The performance of these officials will be assessed based on key performance indicators (KPIs).
The responsibility for the digitalisation of medicine has been transferred to a single integrator, Uzinfocom, from the state company IT-Med.
“Public Health – 2030” strategy
Earlier, it was reported that the Ministry of Health in Uzbekistan has introduced an ambitious draft national strategy, “Public Health – 2030,” intending to overhaul the country’s healthcare system. The proposed reforms include the restructuring of financing across all medical institutions, optimising pharmaceutical and medical equipment supply chains, and implementing advanced management principles.
GDP contribution and investment plans
A significant goal of the strategy is to increase the healthcare sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to 5%. Furthermore, the Fergana region is set to receive a $160mn investment for a cluster comprising specialised centres for endocrinology, urology, cardiology, and radiotherapy.
Infrastructure development targets
The strategy also sets specific targets for the improvement of the material and technical infrastructure of medical institutions. These collective initiatives highlight Uzbekistan’s commitment to developing a modern, efficient, and inclusive healthcare system by 2030.
