A group of media representatives, journalists, and bloggers embarked on a press tour to gain insights into the operations of Chinese energy companies on February 1, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan reported. The primary focus of the tour was to understand the intricate workings of the People's Republic of China's energy system, explore the cutting-edge technologies employed, and delve into the ongoing digitization processes within the industry.
The press tour, organized featured a visit to the headquarters of "China Energy Engineering Corporation" in Beijing. Participants had the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the diverse activities of this international giant, which was established in 2011 and currently boasts a workforce of 120,000 employees. The company's total assets stand at an impressive $154bn, with a remarkable track record of implementing power projects in over 140 countries across all continents.
The company has successfully launched more than 300 projects, accumulating a total capacity of 1060 GW. These projects span various power generation methods, including traditional sources like thermal and hydroelectric power plants, as well as innovative "green" energy solutions such as solar photovoltaic power plants, wind photovoltaic power plants, and nuclear power plants.
During the tour, participants delved into the company's expertise in designing, constructing, and servicing power plants. The focus extended beyond conventional facilities, providing in-depth insights into the potential of renewable energy sources. Notably, the representatives received detailed information about the company's investments and activities in the host country, including projects valued at $2.5bn in the field of renewable energy sources.
Specifically, China Energy Engineering Corporation is actively involved as a contractor in the construction of a state-of-the-art thermal power plant in the Syrdarya region. Additionally, the company has successfully built an energy-efficient cement plant in Kattakurgan district, utilizing coal as a fuel source to conserve natural gas through direct investment.
Further emphasizing its commitment to green energy, the company is in the process of constructing two solar photoelectric power plants, each with a capacity of 500 MW, in the Kashkadarya and Bukhara regions. These facilities were connected to the public grid on December 27, 2023, contributing environmentally friendly "green" energy to Uzbekistan's energy network.
Moreover, China Energy Engineering Corporation is spearheading a project to construct a hybrid power station in the Navoi region, combining solar, wind, and electric energy storage systems with a remarkable capacity of 600 MW. Simultaneously, the company is overseeing the implementation of eight electric energy storage systems across Tashkent, Fergana, Andijan, and Namangan regions, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable and advanced energy solutions.
Additionally, China Energy Engineering Group's 1GW solar initiative in Uzbekistan marked a significant milestone by successfully connecting the initial 400MW phase to the grid. Aligned with the Belt and Road initiative, the project is meticulously designed to tackle Uzbekistan's unique climate challenges, characterized by frequent sandstorms and a dry environment. The deployment of specialized trackers from Arctech ensures the robustness of the solar panels, enabling them to withstand the harsh weather conditions prevalent in the region.
