In a move to boost tourism ties between Kazakhstan and France, a Joint Cooperation Agreement was signed between the French hotel group Accor and Alazar Group on January 26, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan reported. The signing ceremony, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration in the tourism sector.
The event was attended by the presence of key dignitaries, including the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, Yermek Marzhikpayev; First Vice Minister of National Economy, Timur Zhaksylykov; Acting Chairman of the Tourism Committee, Nurtas Karipbayev; General Director of Accor in the New East Europe region, Alexis Delaroff; and representative of Alazar Group and Orient Finance Group, Ruslan Shaekin.
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, emphasized the importance of implementing measures to enhance investment potential and create a conducive environment for entrepreneurial development in the tourism industry. Notably, the indicator of investment in fixed capital at the end of 2023 showed a remarkable increase to almost KZT 800bn ($1.7bn), signifying a 1.5-fold growth compared to the previous year.
“The implementation of projects to create tourist accommodations by the world's leading hotel group Accor, which has extensive experience in the ecosystem of the international hospitality industry, will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to the development of the tourism sector in Kazakhstan. We highly value the exchange of experience with such an international company, and we hope that this cooperation will yield fruitful results,” Minister Marzhikpayev voiced.
Accor, a renowned global hospitality group, operates 5,500 hotels, 10,000 restaurants and bars, wellness centers, and co-working spaces in over 110 countries. With one of the most diverse and fully integrated ecosystems in the hospitality industry, Accor's expertise is expected to play a pivotal role in elevating Kazakhstan's tourism offerings.
The historic collaboration comes against the backdrop of robust diplomatic relations between France and Kazakhstan, which were established on January 25, 1992. The foundation for the bilateral relationship was laid during President Mitterrand’s visit to Kazakhstan in September 1993. Subsequent milestones, including the signing of a strategic partnership in June 2008 and the establishment of a Franco-Kazakh Presidential Commission in 2010, have propelled the relationship forward. Annual consultations between the foreign ministries of both nations since 2011 have further solidified the ties, creating a conducive environment for economic and cultural exchanges.
