A high-level delegation from Türkiye, led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ebubekir Gizligider, visited Astana on January 23 to discuss potential collaborations in the fields of seed production and irrigation systems with Kazakhstan, Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan reported. The discussions took place during a round table meeting attended by key representatives from both countries.
Deputy Minister Abulkhair Tamabek, representing Kazakhstan, highlighted the active cooperation between the two nations. Tamabek noted that in 2023, he held meetings with four leading agricultural companies in Antalya, Türkiye, and ongoing negotiations are in progress for the establishment of a plant focusing on water-saving technologies.
One significant proposal put forth by the Turkish delegation was to host the 8th ECOSA Summit of Turkic-speaking states, in Kazakhstan. Tamabek responded by stating that the Ministry of Agriculture is actively working on the possibility of organizing the summit in conjunction with the international exhibitions KazAgro/KazFarm. Additionally, Türkiye expressed interest in including candidates from Kazakhstan in the ECOSA advisory body, and Tamabek assured that the ministry would look into this matter.
Following the discussions, the Turkish delegation was introduced to the Smart Data Ukimet project, an advanced set of tools for monitoring economic growth and government program implementation. The delegates were also briefed on "Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary," explaining how unused agricultural land is identified in Kazakhstan using the JerInSpectr information system, which employs remote sensing data from space.
Launched in 2022, JerInSpectr facilitates automated monitoring and control of agricultural land use, aiding in the identification of 1 mn hectares of unused arable land and 12 mn hectares of pastures. The geoservice jerkarta.gharysh.kz, an interactive map of unused agricultural land returned to the state, was introduced on January 16, 2023. This public domain resource assists farmers in submitting land plot applications and encourages the timely utilization of unused agricultural land.
The Türkish delegation will conclude their visit by acquainting themselves with the operations of the Kazakh Agrotechnical University S. Seifullin and holding a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aidarbek Saparov.
